Treatments:
So you've become addicted, what's next?
Treating video game addiction is similar to treating any other kind of addiction. Counseling and behaviour modification are the primary methods for overcoming this addiction. Some treatment facilities incorporate the use of medication, with their treatments. Also, since video game addiction is mostly associated with computers, which are an essential part of the average persons life, these facilities tend to lean toward controlled use of the computer, rather than abstinent. There are no overall cures for video game addiction, since just like any other addiction, it's just as easy to become addicted again. The key or idea is to enter treatment, being aware of triggers while participating in recovery groups. However if for some reason you aren't able to go to a treatment center, but you have a reasonably strong will or mentality, you can attempt the following steps, which can be done on your own. It's never too late.

- Don't make excuses. If you have an addiction admit it.
- Set up a plan that stops you from buying games...or pirating games.
- Change your mentality. Notice that the same very video games that you're addicted won't matter to you in a few years.
- Don't overwork yourself. You gain nothing from completing everything in a game. Be satisfied with just running through the game and beating it.
- Begin to reduce the amount of time you spend playing video games.
- Begin to reward yourself as you start to reduce the time spent playing games.
- Vow to meet all your obligations e.g. school work, chores etc.
- Consider leaving your games by a close friend or family.
- Most important of all...DON'T GIVE UP.
